'Flu vaccinations

Are you aged 50 years or over as of 31.3.21?  You are now eligible to have a flu vaccination.

We would like to invite you to book an appointment and attend for your vaccination.

Also, if you have a long term illness which means you are eligible for a free 'flu vaccine or are aged over 64 as of 31.3.20 and have not yet had one this 'flu season, please call reception to book an appointment.

Urgent Medical Service only due to COVID vaccinations

    We are in the fortunate and exciting position to have received a delivery of COVID vaccinations within our Primary Care Network yesterday. As a result, a number of our staff will be starting to vaccinate our most vulnerable patients today and over the coming weeks. As such, we will unfortunately be operating an urgent medical problems only service at the practice during this time. Please continue to contact the surgery with medication requests and urgent medical problems, but if your problem is not urgent please seek alternative advice from 111 or online at https://www.nhs.uk/.
    We hope to be able to return to a normal service as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
    Please do not contact the practice regarding the COVID vaccine, we will contact you once you are eligible. However, to make the booking process easier, if you believe we do not hold an up to date mobile number for you, please email mullion.healthcentre@nhs.net with the heading "mobile number" and include your name, date of birth and your mobile number. If you do not have a mobile number, either provide a trusted relative's or friend's number, but be rest assured we will contact you via your landline if this is not possible.

COVID Vaccination Clinic Details

Today we have started our COVID vaccinations clinics.  This is taking place at Helston Medical Centre but manned with vaccinators from all 4 Primary Care Network (PCN) surgeries, including our GPs, nurses, health care assistants and administrative staff.  For all booked attendees you can park in the Trengrouse Way Council car park (free of charge).  Our team of volunteers will direct you down the road at Meneage Parc to our temporary entrance at the rear of the building.  You will be greeted by the team and checked in.

     You may need to wait in the marquee but we hope not for long.  From here you will see one of our 10 vaccinators and have your vaccine before proceeding to our waiting room for a short period.

     The surgery car park will be closed except for those with blue badges or to drop off.  There is no entry through the usual entrance - this is exit only and a one way system.

    Please do not turn up if you do not have an appointment, no one will receive a vaccination without an appointment.

"Lockdown" and "Shielding"

As we enter into another national lockdown we will continue to support our patients during this time, with ongoing full telephone triage of all face to face GP appointments. Please continue to contact the surgery regarding healthcare matters and only use our A&E departments for serious accidents and/or emergencies.
We will also be shortly rolling out our first batch of vaccines to priority groups as set out by the government. As you can imagine this will put our services under significant strain and we appreciate your patience during this time.
If you come under the shielding category you will receive a letter sent out centrally and information will be available on the government website.  (gov.uk/shielding ) Please do not call the surgery to enquire about shielding letters.

COVID Vaccine

We would like to send our thanks to you all for your patience and understanding over this most challenging of years.

We are pleased to say that we will be working within our local network of practices to roll out our first round of Covid Vaccinations early in the New Year, and will keep you informed once we have more details on a date. Please do not call the surgery to enquire about when you will get your vaccine. Once we have a confirmed date we will contact patients direct to book them in. If you think that we do not have an up to date mobile phone number for you please email it to mullion.healthcentre@nhs.net with the subject “mobile number” and your details (name, DOB, mobile number)

The first group to be vaccinated will be our non-housebound over 80 years old patients. As soon as we have a suitable vaccine that can be transported safely we will then be vaccinating those housebound and in our Care Homes. We appreciate your patience with this. As you can imagine it’s a huge campaign to organise.

We would like to express our thanks to our wonderful staff who have worked tirelessly under significant pressures this last year, for which we are very grateful.

Need to visit a Minor Injuries Dept or Emergency Department?

The following applies to ALL patients who have an URGENT problem that may require a visit to the Minor Injuries Unit or the Emergency Department.

Please do not just turn up there, call 111 who will direct you appropriately.

 

Those using the 111 service will be referred or booked into the most-suitable place for treatment, as close to home as possible. That might be any of the urgent treatment centres or minor injuries units, the nearest Emergency Department (ED) or the range of other urgent care services.

 

Anything serious or life-threatening still requires a call to 999.

As of Monday 16th March 2020, as a Group Practice, we have taken the difficult decision to take the following actions in an attempt to reduce the risk to both patients and staff attending our surgeries:

  1. Total telephone triage of all appointments with GPs, Nurses and Health Care Assistants:

  2. Cancelling all routine appointments which have been deemed safe and appropriate by our GPs - if you have an appointment already booked you may be contacted to change this to a telephone appointment, or cancel the appointment to be rearranged at a later date.  If you are not contacted, please assume that your appointment in the surgery will be going ahead as previously planned;

  3. Asking patients to attend appointments in person, when a GP feels appropriate, at a specific time.  Please follow instructions given by the GP, attend alone if possible, and spend as little time as possible within the building. All patients attending the surgery are asked to wear a face covering.  If you do not have a mask, a scarf will suffice;

  4. When requesting medication, please allow plenty of time (there is no need to "stock-pile" medications) and allow us to use the Electronic Prescription System to avoid the need for you to attend the surgery in person.

We will aim to respond to all urgent issues as quickly as possible, but please have patience with our staff at this difficult time.

If at all possible, please seek advice from NHS 111 online services before calling the surgery for advice so we can improve access to patients with urgent clinical needs.

CQC visited the practice on 23rd & 24th April 2018 to carry out a comprehensive inspection of the Practice under section 60 of the Health & Social Care Act 2008 ( scheduled routine inspection ). The Practice is very pleased with the ratings which reflect the service provided by all staff to our patients :-
